Waiting for my (new) MP and (old) MPP to continue to ignore and actively refuse to acknowledge the horrors of Canadian history and the resilience of Canada's original inhabitants as they do 24/7, but it's double special every Orange shirt day. https://twitter.com/CdnHumanRights/status/1311259500523864067
My old MP spent so much energy trying to get British Home Child day recognized despite it legit being actual colonization, and he succeeded, having the day of honour just days before Orange shirt day.

British Home Child were sent to colonize Canada from 1869 to 1930 (1970).
Most if not 100% of British Home children have died from old age.

The last residential school closed in my lifetime. The effects are obvious, widespread, and will continue to echo, unlike the immigration/colonization program my old and new MP spend so much energy on every year.
I find it disgusting for a politician to be so brazen in their disregard for Indigenous peoples and the atrocities of Canadian history while also celebrating the colonization that contributed to those horrors.

It's even worse when your riding has an Indigenous reserve.
The dismissal of the contemporary struggles caused directly by the institution you participate in while praising the systems that perpetuated racism, cultural genocide, neglect, murder, etc should be grounds for debilitating shame.

Instead, it makes you a conservative.
