\\ Greater emphasis on adult edu and lifelong learning, especially for people with few or no quas is v welcome. We might have been talking Covid for the past 6 months but actually the world of work was already rapidly changing and retraining is essential https://www.centreforcities.org/publication/cities-outlook-2018/
\\ While applying everywhere in England, free college courses for all adults without A-levels have the potential to make the biggest difference in those places where fewer people already have level 3 quals.
\\ Many of the places where fewer people already have A-levels or equivalent qualifications are also among the places where unemployment is higher and the economy is weaker meaning this ‘lifetime skills guarantee’ really has the potential to level up the country.
\\ To turn this 'lifetime skills guarantee' into real success we need to ensure yesterday’s announcements are coupled up with a package to reduce other barriers to learning & investment in job creation.
\\ Plus, these new announcements on adult education will show their effects over the medium/longer term. To help people and places now, we also need to think about social security and benefit system.
