#slurry 1. In 1991 a report issued by the Nature Conservancy Council: Nature Conservation and Pollution of Farm Wastes highlighted the need for safe storage & disposal of farm wastes to reduce farm-based pollution. @campaignstrat @theriverstrust @wwf_uk
2. The 1991 report identified chronic pollution issues from silage clamps and slurry runoff as well as pulses. 71 SSSIs damaged from farm wastes in previous five years. Made recommendations for action. Where are we now, 29 years later? @EnvAgency @EmmaHowardBoyd @TonyJuniper
3. I am not alone in feeling exasperated that the #farming industry and government have abjectly FAILED to address this issue, and yes, the condition of rivers has SUBSTANTIALLY worsened due to the increased density and housing of livestock and the use of land for #waste disposal
