Reminder: Hitler didn’t win power in a revolution.

He was elected as a right-wing populist on a minority - but won the necessary two-thirds support from other right-wingers, conservatives and nationalists to amend the constitution to become a dictator.

It can happen anywhere.
In 1920s/30s Germany, he wasn’t seen as evil incarnate.

To them, he was a right-wing, populist, nationalist politician; a charismatic strongman. He saw conspiracy theories, fake news, violent mobs, xenophobia & ‘them & us’ as fair tactics.

All exist in Western politics today.
“Godwin’s law” is for when someone compares a football team they dislike to Hitler. Of course that’s ridiculous, & needs called out.

It isn’t for when right wing nationalists and populists are treated with the suspicion & scrutiny they deserve. Mike Godwin himself has said this.
When you have Holocaust survivors describing Trump’s border camps as concentration camps, that can’t be dismissed.

Anne Frank wasn’t gassed. She died of typhus, in an overcrowded camp.

Trump’s camps are overcrowded - many migrants there don’t get medical attention, and die.
