/In last night& #39;s #Debates2020
https://abs.twimg.com/hashflags... draggable="false" alt=""> Trump refused to condemn white supremacy & told the Proud Boys, labeled by ADL as "unconventional strain of American right-wing extremism," to "stand back & stand by." @dbyman has written on links between rhetoric & terrorism https://slate.com/news-and-politics/2019/01/right-wing-terrorism-trump-rhetoric.html">https://slate.com/news-and-...
/Trump also suggested that the violence is from "the radical left," but the data on this is unequivocal. A @CSIS report concludes "far-right terrorism has significantly outpaced terrorism from other types of perpetrators, including from far-left networks" https://www.csis.org/analysis/escalating-terrorism-problem-united-states">https://www.csis.org/analysis/...
/The President & many on the right have become obsessed with #Antifa, perhaps as a way to deflect blame from far-right extremists. What is Antifa? @DrMichaelKenney & I explain in @WarOnTheRocks https://warontherocks.com/2020/06/what-antifa-is-what-it-isnt-and-why-it-matters/">https://warontherocks.com/2020/06/w...
/President Trump has politicized terrorism, downplayed or ignored far-right extremism, and refuses to condemn white supremacists. But he& #39;s repeatedly threatened to designate #Antifa as a terrorist group. @Jason_Blazakis & I lay out why he can& #39;t in @Slate https://slate.com/news-and-politics/2020/06/antifa-terrorist-organization-designation-trump.html">https://slate.com/news-and-...
/Terrorism is not an issue to be politicized. It& #39;s crucial that we look at the data & evidence. At @TheSoufanCenter we& #39;ve been doing just that, tracking the issue of violent white supremacy & its transnational connections. The threat is real & is growing. https://thesoufancenter.org/research/white-supremacy-extremism-the-transnational-rise-of-the-violent-white-supremacist-movement/">https://thesoufancenter.org/research/...
/We desperately need political leadership that takes this threat seriously. From Pittsburgh to El Paso, it& #39;s apparent that we have a problem with anti-Semitic, anti-immigrant, white supremacist & neo-Nazi ideology gaining traction with individuals & groups in the United States.
/It& #39;s so sad & disappointing that this even needs to be said, but we need a leader that will condemn hatred, racism & political violence, not encourage it with a wink & a nod. The United States is in a bad place. I pray to God that we can recover & focus on healing. End thread/
