A coworker of mine just finished explaining to me (a closeted trans woman) that he’d be well within his rights to use the panic defense if he “had to” murder a trans woman.

“Had to.” Like he has absolutely no choice. As if his complete lack of self-control is some kind of virtue. All the while smiling, laughing, and stomping his feet on the ground, over and over, killing an imaginary trans woman before my eyes.

Sure, I could report him to HR, along with every other Trump-humping lunatic who spews hate and ignorance in this factory, but nothing would come of it. All I’d achieve is outing myself and placing a huge target on my back.

I could take a massive pay cut and sabotage everything I’ve worked towards for the last 6 years. That’s also an option, and one I have seriously considered.

But bigots are everywhere, even in Washington State. So what’s the point?

Honestly, I don’t know what to do. Working with these people makes me profoundly unhappy, and I’ve already got an assortment of personal demons I fight on a daily basis.

Suggestions welcome, and I’m sorry if this thread disturbed anyone.
