The thing is when your playing for Chelsea, your playing for Chelsea. The expectations have to be at the same high level they are for every single player. Regardless of age, you should be playing on your own merit and be accountable to the same standards every other player is
Tonight we had 2 academy players that made extremely rookie mistakes that cost us the game. And against a Jose Mourinho team these kind of mistakes will cost you. Honestly put Willian in that team for Hudson Odoi and we win that match, Mount was knackered, guy wasn't even running
And he was still on the pitch, Barkley or Havertz should've been on in all honesty, Lampard's in game management was appalling. I understand Chilwell has to be closely monitored for fitness but Mount should've been off 100%. When we lost Willian, we lost experience, we lost a big
Game player. We lost the Fa Cup final without him and we've lost this game as well. The guy had massive influence at the club, a guy who performed and played regularly. A workhorse. And when you lose such players like him and Pedro and their is no replacement for them in the side
(Ziyech wasn't fit) there will be problems. Because their characters that push the team to winning games. If you look at who performed for us yesterday it was the experienced Azpi, Zouma, Jorginho, Kovacic Kante that played well and on the other side the inexperienced Mount, Odoi
And Tammy that didn't play well. The point is when its a prestigious game, a London Derby a cup tie and against a Jose Mourinho team you need these experienced, influential players to push you through and with the loss of Willian and Pedro we didn't have that in attack. We were
Extremely wasteful, I'll put some examples later, in attack we were appalling tonight, and the wingers on the reverse side, didn't help enough, they didn't do enough to stop the crosses and help the full backs out on the defensive side.
Here are 2 instances where the match should have been tied up
1) Hudson Odoi runs at the Spurs defence, Dier is off the pitch taking a shit their is nothing to stop him to play a short pass to Tammy Abraham who will be through on goal. What does he do, he blazes it over the bar
CHO is my favourite player at this club but let me tell you, the reaction to this huge error was non-existent If that was Willian you can only imagine the uproar. We need to hold ALL players to the same standards. This costs us the game. He must improve because he has to, because
We will need him to perform like tonight, as a 3rd choice winger he will get a lot of game time and he cannot repeat this level of performance, because he will find it hard to get back in the team. A player like Willian and Pedro their plays that pass and we win the game. Simple
2) Another shocking bit of play in the attacking 3rd, Mount never looked confident in what he was going to do and plays a tame through ball that Dier makes a good interception from. From this situation their is no excuses to not get the ball to Timo Werner or have a shot on goal
I'm sure many of u saw this play and on the TL and were disgusted by it as well. Naturally their was huge outrage because it was Mason Mount making the error. This goes about deeper than than just that tho. Some of the blame for this Mount performance has to go on Frank Lampard
The kid is 20 years old and he cant keep playing 90 minutes every game like he's doing. He was visibly knackered throughout the second half and we had players that can do a job on the bench. Barkley deserved a start today at least some game time and Havertz unused also. Shambles
From Frank Lampard who is literally burning Mount to the ground. You cant expect a player to keep performing every game for 90 minutes at 20 years old. Especially one who runs as much as Mount does. Their are again no excuses for Barkley or Havertz not getting minutes tonight.
In conclusion, when you lose quality experienced players like Willian and Pedro and players of the same influence don't come in you are bound to fail. Rookie mistakes cost us this match, that those type of players don't make. We have to keep the same standards for all players
Academy or not because at the end of the day they all play for Chelsea FC, who's ambitions should be winning trophies every year and player performances have to be at the very top. Another reason why Frank really wanted Willian to stay, a top professional at all times.
I'll analyse more of the game and zoom in on some more individual performances later in the day.
