So the other night I ordered a taxi in an app.

Just like any other ride-hailing app, the app uses GPS to show the locations of the user (me) and the taxi on a map.

Which means the driver should have known where I was.
I'm waiting at a street corner when the driver calls me.

"Where are you? Which street?" he wants to know.

I'm slightly confused, but I decide to tell him the street name and the house number that I can see on the wall right next to me.

The number is 18.
A few minutes later he calls me again.

"Where are you? I'm here!"

I'm at number 18, I tell him. And that he's not here. This makes him angry.

"18? You said 80!" he yells.
I'm still waiting in front of number 18 when he calls again. I can see his car in the app. He's not far from me.

"Where are you?" he yells.

I tell him that I'm still at number 18.

He says: "No, you're not!"

I tell him to wait where he is. He's not far. I will walk to him.
I walk for a minute, then I see his car approaching.

"Where were you?" he yells at me from the window.

I say I was at number 18.

"No, you weren't!"

I tell him we can just look at the sign on the house, it's right there.

"Get in!" he yells. "You weren't there!"
When we get to the house, I point to the sign on it. It has the street name and the number 18 written on it. And it's a pretty big sign.

He says: "Oh, we WILL look at it!"

Then he turns the car around in the middle of the street, apparently in order to get a better look.
I ask him if he can see the street name and the number.

He says yes.

And then, after a pause, he says: "But you said you were at number 19!"
- the end.

[I had to think of this when I was watching Biden trying to engage in a debate with Trump.]
