Seriously though, why couldn’t Trump just straight up denounce white supremacy? He has in the past, he did after Charlottesville. Why didn’t he outright say it tonight?
Side note: Chris Wallace really pushed the “very fine people hoax” tonight. He never called neonazi’s or white supremacists “very fine people.” He denounced them in the full speech, condemning bigotry and hatred, saying it has no place in America.
One speech includes these statements: “This egregious display of Bigotry and violence... have no place in America.” “We must remember this truth; no matter our color, creed, religion, political party, we are all Americans first.”
Another speech about Charlottesville: “Anyone who acted criminally in this weekends racist violence, you will be held fully accountable. Justice will be delivered.” “We condemn, in the strongest possible terms ... hatred, bigotry and violence.” (1)
“Racism is evil, and those who cause violence in its name are criminals and thugs. Including the KKK, Neo-Nazis, White Supremacists, and other hate groups that are repugnant to everything we hold dear as Americans.” (2)
As for the “very fine people” quote: “You had people - and I’m not talking about the NeoNazis and the white nationalists because they should be condemned totally, but you had many people in that group [counter-protesters] other than neonazis and white nationalists...” (1)
“...and the press has treated them absolutely unfairly. Now in the other group also [protesters] you had some fine people. But, you also had trouble makers.” (2)
The context of Charlottesville is similar to the riots that have been going on. Some people are peaceful, some are not. One radical right-winger drove into a crowd which killed one peaceful protester and injured many more.
Trump many times in 3 separate appearances condemned all violence, bigotry, racism, and destruction of history. I ask again, @realDonaldTrump, why didn’t you just say that you condemn white supremacy?
