Sounds about par for the course https://twitter.com/yvngandrew/status/1311164501929209856
Also on Clubhouse tonight: a white Thiel fellow telling a whole room “I just think racism is so overblown and we need to get over it” https://twitter.com/samihah/status/1311166418910470150
Just one more taste of the convo tonight on Clubhouse: there’s a Gen Z “guru” chatting with a room about how the way Trump talked about white supremacy was okay ... “it’s how boys speak on the golf course”.
Tonight on Clubhouse: VCs hosting a group panel with Curtis Yarvin aka Mencius Moldbug, a far-right blogger and former Breitbart writer often called “the alt-right's favorite philosophy instructor". https://twitter.com/jeremiahjw/status/1311567417965862913
Apparently Curtis Yarvin is becoming a pretty popular regular on the app
Yup. Several of the app’s beta testers are men credibly and publicly accused of sexual harassment, misconduct etc. They have even perpetuated this behavior on the app. The founders have done nothing despite the fact that it’s a beta test. The app is rife with sexism and misogyny https://twitter.com/DDotOmen/status/1312965683874017280
The VC room with Curtis Yarvin, the largest room and top room on the app, is now discussing how women fabricate rape accusations. Just disgusting https://twitter.com/TaylorLorenz/status/1311572618881888256
Here’s some more from the top room on Clubhouse tonight: The men are discussing how women fake rape accusations and black people fake racism and hate crime accusations for attention. “I don’t know of any noose hate crime that’s actually real.”
Anyone recording these rooms or any of the horrible things taking place on Clubhouse please email me! I will keep your info anonymous: [email protected]
They named the room “holding space for Karens” to make fun of the “snowflakes” on Clubhouse who don’t accept racism, bigotry, misogyny, harassment. (VCs don’t seem to understand by supporting that stuff they are the actual Karens but internet culture is not their strong suit)
Some of the most consistent enablers on this app are now hosting a room reminiscing about the app “pre toxicity.” Some of these very people downplayed issues of abuse for months this summer. People don’t want to “focus on the positivity” until very serious issues are addressed
Marc Andreessen got so upset about ppl speaking out against racism, misogyny, harassment and the awful stuff that’s rampant on Clubhouse that he created a room called “silence” where it’s just... silence.

“I guess this is what free speech looks like to Marc” someone said
More users are calling out Clubhouse’s failure to moderate the platform or protect users from harassment or abusers. The founders have been aware of these issues from the beginning of the beta test but have chosen to scale without protections in favor of user growth over safety. https://twitter.com/deardrewdixon/status/1315496455650586625
Unfortunately “protest rooms” do nothing but continue to enrich the founders and investors of the app, who have done nothing to protect users from abuse and see your engagement as a net positive https://twitter.com/choi_clint/status/1315524840267419648
The founders/investors of CH have been aware of these issues from the beginning, it’s by design. Some of the app’s earliest beta testers had known histories of sexual misconduct. When women brought up that this made them uncomfortable they were encouraged to leave the platform
I hope everyone takes note of who continues to use CH. There is zero reason to beta test a platform causing active harm and platforming hate, misogyny, and disinformation (unless reporting on it/leaking stuff) Continuing to use a platform only contributes to its success/relevance
Sounds like another fruitful discussion. And reminder that Clubhouse has no intention or ability to police disinformation on their platform.
Casual racism is all over on Clubhouse. And this is just the stuff taking place in the largest and most high profile rooms.
Another man with a long history of rape jokes, misogyny, and vile verbal abuse toward women has been invited to beta test Clubhouse and is now an active user. https://www.inc.com/kimberly-weisul/you-could-never-get-away-with-this-at-a-public-company.html
These ppl are deranged. Calling out harassment is not me "vs" anyone. It's standing up for what's right. Last I heard from Mabod he said he hoped I was assaulted and told me he'd only remove my personal information from Everipedia if I wrote a positive story on him.
This is not the first time men on Clubhouse have hosted entire rooms to instigate harassment campaigns against me + other women. @pdavison knows this. He could easily take action against these people and ban them from this *beta test* but he/the platform ignores and encourages it
Anti Semitic comments are commonplace on Clubhouse it isn’t surprising that people say things like this too https://twitter.com/MichaelaHirsh/status/1318189461394628608
Reminder that disinformation is rampant on Clubhouse too, COVID disinfo spread on the app throughout the summer and people frequently promote other types of disinfo and conspiracies too. The platform refuses to take action or attempt to mitigate the spread of dangerous falsehoods https://twitter.com/CaseyNewton/status/1318344252141621248
Clubhouse was built to platform racists and extremists who have been run off or banned from other mainstream platforms. The fact that these people host some of the most popular rooms is no coincidence. https://twitter.com/keyinfluencer/status/1319486908389445632
