I’m a lot more anarcho-communist than many think.
i came up in a revolutionary party that was communist, w origins in CP& the new left, but by the 80s had a critique of USSR & China that said that stopping at socialism was the problem- & u must go directly to communism.
But although they had heavy critiques of Russia and china, and had the line that “communism hasn’t been tried yet”, they also upheld the victories of these revolutions- even the ones that existed during the periods they heavily critiqued.
Although they said the USSR wasn’t communist (it wasn’t) they rejected doing so as a simple way to side step anti-communism. They Openly argued w the lies about the USSR, knowing this was just anti-communism, while putting out harsh critiques- in order 2b scientific w their line
They had a somewhat similar line w regard to China (Yet, of course not exactly). Due to the uniqueness of these lines, they had many differences with A lot of parties and sometimes was very sectarian, except when it came to fighting skinheads.
Through all of this and over the years since, I’ve come to recognize that while all of these critiques were/are correct- one thing I’ve learned from anarchists is that none of us know all the details of how we’re Gonna get there. We should decide how we’re gonna proceed and
Have a line on that, but know that we “make the road by walking“, that we’re learning, and that some revolutions around the world are happening that will make mistakes and even have ppl that do fucked up things in it. But you don’t write off the whole revolution because of that.
And- although it must be done- it’s easier to critique a revolution than make one. Sometimes some of the fuck ups are in revolutions r organizers doing things that sway and develop 10s of millions at a time and the particulars of their situation didnt allow for other things.
I think it’s sometimes a little arrogant to critique these revolutions w/o also acknowledging that in many cases these were neighborhood organizers who figured out how to build their mvmnt to 10s or 100s of millions and make revolutionary ideology popular and fight a bloody war.
theyve got something for us to learn from them.
Some of my statements on here have been thought of as really anti-anarchist, but it’s really me challenging folks from a place of understanding & uniting w their general thrust and wanting folks to question lines on countries outside of the US that line up w state dept propaganda
to make clear- no, I don’t now and never have called myself anarcho-communist. Just communist.
