Garrett Rolfe, the Atlanta Police Officer who murdered Rayshard Brooks on June 12th was an enrolled student at Kennesaw State University

In the 111 days since the shooting, @kennesawstate has not made a single statement addressing Rolfe’s position at our university.

@kennesawstate’s silence on this issue is damning.

When Kamiyah Street, a Black woman, was arrested for murder in 2019, KSU released a statement within hours of her arrest, before charges were even announced.

The university did not do the same for Rolfe.
Rolfe’s enrollment at Kennesaw State was not known to the wider public until a June 30th bond hearing, where his academic record was flaunted as a part of his “character defense.”

He currently faces 11 charges, including felony murder and assault with a deadly weapon.
While KSU has been publicly silent, administration has worked behind the scenes to obscure Rolfe’s enrollment at our school.

Journalists from the @ksusentinel have been repeatedly denied access to any information regarding his time at Kennesaw State citing FERPA concerns.
Garett Rolfe presents an abject threat to our community.

Prior to the fatal shooting on June 12, Rolfe was involved in two other racialized incidents of abuse in 2015 and 2016.

KSU allowed this man on our campus.

How well does he represent our Criminal Justice department?
After weeks of protests and state violence, the student body had the RIGHT to know about Rolfe’s enrollment at KSU. There was a murderer on our campus and most of our community isn’t even aware.

His very presence was and is a threat to Black students, faculty, and staff.
@kennesawstate was silent about this Rolfe even after President Whitten told us there was “unequivocally no room for the existence of or the tolerance of any kind of racism.”

Rayshard’s murder was an act of racist violence. His killer is a dangerous racist. Why weren’t we told?
