The racial biases in Wynonna Earp are subtle, which is why it’s so frustrating. POC on the show get significantly less screen time, none of them are fully human, several of them have been used as relationship foils for the white couples...1/
All of these things are so subtle, and so easily ignored by the fandom, so when some of us bring it up, people get defensive like “how dare you call this show racist??”. But y’all need to realize that even as unintentional these things are, they are still inherently racist 2/
I believe the writers are good people, but I also believe that they may not even realize some of the racial biases they are perpetuating which is why it’s important to recognize that unintentional racism is still dangerous. So many of us are guilty of this 3/
As for the fandom, so many of y’all are ready to hate on the POC in the show for the same reasons that you celebrate the white characters on the show. Some of y’all also get way too defensive when POC call out the issues they have with representation on the show 4/
And then have the nerve to tell us we’re dramatic or not a real fan. A lot of the people in this fandom are guilty of this. It doesn’t make you a bad person, but it does mean you have some work to do. 5/
Anyway, folks need to stop using the “this has nothing to do with race” card and just listen. 6/
