A year ago my ex trawled Google to find my personal business and finally found me here, as Beth. Then he outed me. It’s an act of violence that almost outdoes the rest and a lesson has been learned. With decrim his threat would be less significant. #sexworkiswork @FionaPattenMLC
I guess when I say trawled I mean STALKED.
And used sex work as a way to attempt to alienate my child from me and defame me in the community. This violence happens all too often to sex workers. With decriminalisation I would be afforded the same security and legal rights as anyone who was victim to this illegal behaviour
I’m speaking out now inspired by another worker who publicly stated they’d endured similar harassment by an ex intimate partner. Violent men will ALWAYS use marginalisation to abuse their victims and without decrim, sex work can be weaponised.
Ironically it’s often the abuser who pushed the victim into sex work in many ways, so to then be targeted and further abused for using sex as paid labour to survive after being abused, is a further perpetration of violence.
Further irony is that when you push someone into having nothing left to lose, you become the one at risk of losing. What comes around goes around and nothing is better than rising from the ashes after someone burns down your life. #SurvivorAdvocacy #MumsWhoSexWork
