Weird that everyone always talks about the ego but never the id or superego
The concept of ego death could actually potentially be dangerous since it can no longer keep your id in check

Id is defined as part of the psyche, residing in the unconscious, that is the source of instinctive impulses that seek satisfaction in accordance w the pleasure principle & are modified by the ego & superego before given overt expression.
The Id is the only component of the psyche present from birth. It is the instinctual nature that seeks instant gratification. Think of a baby crying for their needs to be met—there is no concept of patience for Id. It responds directly to needs, wants and desire
The Id wants what it wants no matter the cost. It has no concept of reality due to what is called primary process thinking, a type of mental image conjured by the Id to satisfy its desires when not immediately met.

An example of this is daydreaming of tasty food when hungry.
The Ego develops, building on the foundation of the Id, as a way to guide the Id so that we don’t retain the sometimes dangerous impulsivity of children. It becomes a way to connect imagination and impulse with reality and logic.
Because the Ego is responsible for regulating Id, we learn to be patient and practice delayed gratification. The Ego is also able to consider social etiquette and understand rules, whereas Id is wholly chaotic left to its own devices.
The Superego is said to develop around 5 and begins to seek to control the Id’s impulses. The Superego is largely based on what we are taught by our individual environments and becomes a sort of moral compass by which we set out to live by.
The Superego consists of the ideal self and the conscience. Through the ideal self, we strive to be an imaginary version of ourselves that has reached perfection and is a “good” person. Through the conscience, the Superego punishes behavior outside that ideal with guilt.
The Superego seeks to suppress Id fully and attempts to force the Ego to live up to impossible standards. When given too large a share of balance with the other components, the Superego can lead to a personality that is prone to condemnation and judgement.
