It& #39;s time for the #LAUSD Board of Education& #39;s Committee of the Whole Meeting!

The item on the agenda that jumped out at me today? Item #5: the School Safety Task Force Report

Here& #39;s a preview I wrote for @LAist: https://laist.com/latest/post/20200929/lausd-school-police-budget-cuts">https://laist.com/latest/po...
I& #39;ll try to tweet updates from the #LAUSD Board of Ed meeting while also juggling the LA County reopening waivers news today.

Livestream should be here: http://lausd.granicus.com/MediaPlayer.php?publish_id=18

&">https://lausd.granicus.com/MediaPlay... as always, I& #39;d love to hear your thoughts! Feel free to tweet, DM, or email me your reactions.
(For what it& #39;s worth - don& #39;t know if anyone else had this problem - but the livestream wasn& #39;t working for me until just now. Looks like we& #39;re joining the meeting already in progress).
Local District Central Superintendent and School Safety Task Force member Roberto A. Martinez says the task force will send survey to all #LAUSD high school students for their feedback. ( @LA_StudentsDsrv had called out the district for not including students on the task force).
Martinez is now going over the potential cuts to the @LASchoolPolice.

In June, the board narrowly passed a $25 million cut from the LASPD. That $, per the resolution, is supposed to be reallocated w/ focus on "schools w/ the highest concentration of African American students."
The proposed cuts aren& #39;t new. We saw those draft plans earlier this month.

But this is the first time the #LAUSD board is going to discuss how the former school police funds could be spent instead. Some ideas, from the slides:
Now, a presentation from #LAUSD& #39;s Independent Analysis Unit on drive times.

The research question? "Where can services be located optimally in the District?"

One way this info could be applied: if #LAUSD school police are removed from campuses & are only responding on patrol.
The @LASchools Board of Education Meeting livestream is having some technical difficulties, so I don& #39;t know if I& #39;ll be able to keep livetweeting...

I& #39;ll come back to this thread with a summary of the #LAUSD board members& #39; discussion after the fact.
