It's the 30th of September in some parts of the world (looking at you India!). So it's my birthday then. 💃💃I'm doing well, thanks! But others aren't. Which is why I'm asking you to donate to @LifeYouCanSave. A thread and reflection of why I do it. 1/9
So a bit about me: I'm the sort who feels bad at life's random lottery. I think about it a lot. Like knowing that some child dies because of a mosquito bite that's a nuisance to me. Or that a woman, like me, who's given birth has terrible injuries that can be fixed. 2/9
And here's the thing - in many of these cases, it's just MONEY! That's the weird thing. It's the same money I buy a Starbucks with that could save their entire life. That makes me slightly crazy. 3/9
At the same time I'm a bit of a coward. Or lovin' the good life, you may say. I've admire @Malala, @DenisMukwege and #JeanDreze but my heart fails me to go out and toil and get shot or killed. So what can I do with a good but cowardly heart and some money? 4/9
It turns out there's a lot. You can donate to effective organizations doing the work. You need them to do the work & make life's random lottery slightly fairer and they need you for the money. 5/9
I realized this a few years ago after reading @PeterSinger's article "How much Should A Billionaire Give and How much should you?" And LOTS of Google searching. But orgs like @LifeYouCanSave make this process easier for people. I wish I had known them years ago. 6/9
How? First there's the free book "The Life You Can Save." That's right. You can download it. Read, distribute, etc. Next, there's a calculator that tells you how much you should give. & Then a list of 22 charities to make donating even easier. 7/9
But we need to get the book and idea into EVERYONE'S hands! So they can read for themselves and donate. As any marketer (or missionary) would te you, unfortunately that requires money. 8/9
