#100DaysOfHipHop
before I post Day 1...
HipHop culture is made up of 5 components: Turntableism, MCing, Graffiti, Breakin’ & Beatboxing.
Some tracks you may not consider hip hop but I will explain in each post why I have learnt them to be 🤓 #Geek

Here we go....
DAY1 #100DaysOfHipHop
Starting with (Not the 1st HH track) but the 1st to expose the genre to the mainstream.
Even though it came off the back of the funk/disco era the MCing on top is what makes it hiphop, & a classic.

Rapper’s Delight - SUGAR HILL GANG
DAY2 #100DaysOfHipHop
Have a few different remixes of this track & also a great reprise.
Think this will bring nostalgia for a few, was a fave of mine & my bro’s.
Not forgetting it also went platinum in 95.

I got 5 on it - THE LUNIZ
DAY3 #100DaysOfHipHop
Whenever I hear this track, it’s an indicator of the whole album following it. The best.

Lost Ones - @MsLaurynHill
DAY4 #100DaysOfHipHop
I think a fave group of most hip hop heads, sampling ‘as long as I’ve got you’ - THE CHARMELS.

C.R.E.A.M. - @WuTangClan
(CashRulesEverythingAroundMe)
DAY5 #100DaysOfHipHop
A fave release of mine this year. Actually had to double check if DMX was on the track. It’s all Denzel.

Diet - @denzelcurry / @kennybeats
Day6 #100DaysOfHipHop
A staple for rap heads.
Creating full sentences out of each letter in order of the alphabet.
Not a freestyle but incredible all the same.

Alphabetical Slaughter - @Papooseonline
DAY7 #100DaysOfHipHop

1st Snoop album I owned & a top one at that. Fave song of the album ‘Doggystyle’ that got me through all my night shifts & early starts at several different jobs. Always loved the G-funk genre.

Gz & Hustlas - @SnoopDogg
DAY8 #100DaysOfHipHop

One of the 1st female rappers I’d heard as a young teen, rinsed this song to oblivion.
One of Death Row records best female rappers & if you didn’t know, Baby D from the film ‘Friday’.

Afro Puffs - LADY OF RAGE
DAY9 #100DaysOfHipHop

Couldn’t find the album version, but I’m sure you’ll appreciate something live. Written for his dad, about the president of Ghana & who lead the country to independence. A fave on the album for me.

Kwame Nkrumah - @KojeyRadical
DAY10 #100DaysOfHipHop

Didn’t want to post the vid as it’s a distraction from how epic the drums & guitar are on this track. Fusing rock & hiphop on this 1 like linkin park, limp bizkit, RATM etc did. NERD are rebels of production.

RockStar - @NERDarmy
DAY11 #100DaysOfHipHop

Going back a bit with this one. ‘Changes’ would be the obvious to post(might do later on) but this is an important one lyrically & about real life. So many complex, tragic things in one song.

Brendas got a baby - @2PAC
DAY12 #100DaysOfHipHop

Bringing it forward to 2020 UK with this track. Please check out Dreya’s socials as she not only does music but is an established dancer. Love the flow changes in this unique, standout tune. #IndependentArtist

Skippin’ - @dreyamac
DAY13 #100DaysOfHipHop

Something chill for your Sunday. A fave Tribe song for me, calm vibes & Q-tip.

Electric relaxation - @ATCQ
DAY14 #100DaysOfHipHop

An oldie but goodie. A FITB everyone should have seen.
Relevant now, & always.

Fire in the Booth pt1 - @akalamusic
DAY15 #100DaysOfHipHop

Released in 2013, think this is a fave tune for me off the ‘Wolf’ album.
Gotta love Tyler’s emo, immature, adolescent comedy nature.

Jamba - @tylerthecreator
DAY16 #100DaysOfHipHop

A special one here. We found out during their @verzuzonlinebattle that Jill Scott penned Erykah Badu’s part in this, but also Eve wrote some of the bars. A classic.

You got me - @theroots ft @fatbellybella
DAY17 #100DaysOfHipHop

Can’t post a biggie track without this one first. Sampled from ‘juicy fruit.’
Most hip hop heads know the first line of this tune, it’s kinda cool when it comes on in a club. Everyone rapping together :)

Juicy - @biggiesmalls
DAY18 #100DaysOfHipHop
“Back when Kanye had to name drop Talib Kweli to get girls” sums up this track. Fan of early KW, he’s at his best here with these 2 powerhouses. Underrated/fave tune off the album.

Get em High- @kanyewest
Ft @common & Talib Kweli
DAY19 #100DaysOfHipHop

A fave from 2019 for me & another dope @kennybeats track.
The energy in this is like being in a mosh pit. Sometimes NEEDED.

Cold - @Rico_nastyy
DAY20 #100DaysOfHipHop

Some chill for your Sunday From A staple album in my opinion, for any hip hop heads. Not many rate this track off ‘illmatic’ but its a fave for me & my nostalgia.

One time 4 your mind - @Nas
DAY21 #100DaysOfHipHop
A cover, but Rage smashed it.
This is true hiphop:
“Now renegades are the ppl,
With their own philosophy,
They change the course of history
Everyday ppl like you or me.”

This is defo a song for 2020.

Renegades of funk- @RATM
DAY22 #100DaysOfHipHop

Bringing some conscious flow to your Tuesday. Another song that fits right into 2020.
Check out 2001 album ‘Revolutionary-Vol1’

Dominant species - @ImmortalTech
DAY23 #100DaysOfHipHop

Plenty of BR to choose from but going with this banger for his rap speed ability. Lyrically it’s not a fave but you would not be standing in a club without your head bobbing when this comes on.

Break ya neck - @BustaRhymes
DAY24 #100DaysOfHipHop

Chilled 1 today.
Saw FLC live at the hackney ocean a LONG time ago. Was epic.
“Barry White, saved my life.
& if Barry White saved your life,
Or got you back with your ex wife,
Sing Barry white...”

Love unlimited - @funlovincrims
DAY25 #100DaysOfHipHop

A classic & also an iconic video by ‘Her’ Dir. Spike Jones.
The whole vid was filmed backward so the group worked with a linguistics expert to learn the lyrics reversed. ‘Drop’ Vocal sample from @beastieboys

Drop - @thepharcyde
DAY26 #100DaysOfHiphop

Today’s tune is a remix.
Have choreographed to this for class a few years back & as much as I like the original, the different beat/melody pockets are👌🏽

D.O.A. - @jayz / @chaseandstatus remix
DAY27 #100DaysOfHipHop

Missy said herself she makes music for dancers & she’s 1 artist I always wanted to dance for. Classic tune & video Dir by music video giant @HypeWilliams - Epic.

She’s a Bitch - @MissyElliott
DAY28 #100DaysOfHipHop

Not a big banger, bit of a diss track but love the quirkiness of this whole album.
It could be the soundtrack to someone’s whole day. Check out ‘Breakfast cereal’ on it too.

The Brush-Off - @DJYodaUK / The Aspects
DAY29 #100DaysOfHipHop

If you don’t know it as a stand alone tune, you’ll have heard it in the Blind Samurai scene from
‘The Boondocks’.
Very fitting & just dope.

Guillotine (swords) - @Raekwon ft @TheRealGZA @GhostfaceKillah @INSpectahDECKWU
DAY30 #100DaysOfHipHop

Off the back of yesterday’s tune, I’m choosing ‘The Boondocks’ theme. Shorter than the original but I prefer this version as Asheru packs a punch in this & they are some of my favourite lyrics.

Judo flip - @Asheru
DAY31 #100DaysOfHipHop

This is actually a fave for me off ‘Funkdafied’.
In 94, The album sold over 1m & she became the 1st solo female rapper to go platinum.

Da shit ya can’t fuc wit - Da Brat
DAY32 #100DaysOfHipHip

Didn’t want to post obvious ones so here’s a mashup from RM. Most will know the melody but unfamiliar with ‘swords in the dirt’ lyrics.
A 2002 UK gem.

Witness the Swords- @rootsmanuva ft Skeme, BigP, Blackitude, RodneyP & Fallacy
DAY33 #100DaysOfHipHop

A fave mafioso-rap duo of mine, too many tunes I want to post.
But as it’s #Halloween ,
thought I’d share one with an eerie vibe.
Pusha-T wrote this about the ‘Horrors’ of the music industry.

Keys Open Doors - Clipse
