So far at Omaha City Council in the discussion on the new proposed new recycling contract with Nebraskaland:
- the Mayor disparaged FirstStar Fiber for asking for more money last year
- Public Works said there's a lot of "misinformation" out there but they're here for facts
- Public Works then provided information about the contract which is over $20 million for 10 yrs and how it's "responsive" to the market
- no other Facts were provided, though FirstStar was again disparaged.
- head of Nebraskaland says he's here to provide "facts & data points"
- former landlord for Nebraskaland made it down to Council just to tell them what a terrible tenant they are. Trash everywhere. Mean people. Etc.
- CEO of FirstStar got up to respond to disparaging remarks made about them and tbh, it was heartbreaking
- it was pointed out that Nebraskaland doesn't have a website/ social media / even really a phone number
- Councilman Gray asked about diversity and Nebraskaland said there were "oh, a lot of diversity".
- Councilman Harding has been ON IT and Nebraskaland isn't handling it well
- Nebraskaland head claiming they can recycle everything. That's complete nonsense.
- Harding wants to know why there's so much recycled materials sitting out in the open exposed to the elements at their site. Nebraskaland has a lot of excuses.
- Nebraskaland will need to purchase a whole lot of infrastructure to handle Omaha's recycling but they definitely got it don't worry they got it.
- disparaged FirstStar again
Friends, I think you should ask your City Councilmember about the specifics of this contract. I'm not saying email them and yell at them, I mean ask them to explain it.

It, uh, doesn't sound great.

(Hey @craigmoody Verdis group just got mentioned 😬)
- Councilwoman Melton pointing out that she's excited about covered recycling bins but now Nebraskaland is out here saying they're going to dump the recycling into their uncovered parking lot. So...I'm with her that sounds weird.
Honestly what is happening with this contract.
