How’s your Tuesday? Really dragging? You know what you need? Right, a super-boring political thread! Who’s ready? Ok, since you asked for it, here are the NOM Senate Hot Takes!
You know if you can’t give money to a candidate, you have plenty of other ways to help: phone banking, postcard writing ( #PostcardsToVoters), and texting. If you find a candidate or race you’re interested in, you can definitely find a way to help without giving cash.
If you can afford to give, recurring donations are better for candidates as they can plan more effectively. If you can afford to give $50, maybe you can instead give $15 each week from now until the election. Most candidate sites allow you to setup recurring, weekly donations.
Text and email solicitations have been pouring in from tons of candidates. I want to donate to ALL of them but know it doesn’t make sense. I finally buckled down and did some research to figure out where I might want to send a few more bucks.
I’d love to kick out McConnell and I’ve been tempted by emails claiming tightening polls in Alaska, but do they make sense? Nope, McGrath still trails by 10 points and it hasn’t budged much. Maybe Alaska makes sense, but there doesn’t seem to be enough info to tell.
I’ve spent some time on three sites this week: Real Clear Politics, 538, and The Cook Political Report. Several Senate races are of interest. While you’ve probably heard of all of them, you might not know the status of each. Here’s a thread of the ones that now interest me.
Summary: All three sites agree that the Senate races in the following states are basically toss-ups and your money would make a difference: Iowa, Maine, North Carolina, Montana, and Georgia.
Affinity for the Midwest? Just frugal? I give you Iowa! 538’s closest race with their model showing Ernst(R) defeating Greenfield(D) 54% of the time though RCP’s recent polls all show a slight edge for Greenfield. Your $ would make a difference. https://greenfieldforiowa.com/
Montana is a BIG state and a HUGE opportunity. The most recent NYT poll has Steve Bullock(D) within a point of his incumbent opponent. A two-time Democratic governor of a Republican-leaning state, Bullock has proven he can win statewide election. https://stevebullock.com/
