*Checks in to see how gender self ID is working in Ireland* https://twitter.com/griptmedia/status/1310980017095086080
Since 2015 🇮🇪 have moved to a system which removed the requirement to provide medical evidence of a diagnosis of gender dysphoria and to live in an acquired gender for two years. Some are agitating for such changes to occur in the 🇬🇧 too.

The case of Barbie Kardashian is not a good advertisement for the removal of those safeguards.
The Barbie Kardashian case isnt really a surprise though is it? https://twitter.com/post_liberal/status/1202244886906449920?s=20
Its eminently predictable in fact. Its baked into the gender self ID cake. But yet there are unfortunately many people out there who would rather that vulnerable women were put at risk than speak out about this issue.
This is likely why John.

The experience of higher education frequently produces citizens with more liberal values (read the work of Paula Surridge)

Its not a coincidence imo that Ireland liberalises at a rate of knots at the same time that this occurs https://twitter.com/danobrien20/status/1090906758619586560?s=20
Liberalism, as a philosophy, tends to concern itself with freedom from constraints not freely chosen by the individual. Trans-genderism is also, you could argue, at heart, an issue which concerns itself with freedom from constraints not freely chosen by the individual.
Unfortunately there will ALWAYS be SOME constraints in life that are not freely chosen by the individual. Wise liberals, Im thinking of the likes of Isaiah Berlin & Larry Siedentop, understand this.
This is prob the best description of modernity (Louis Menand) Ive read but the funny thing is it doubles as a decent definition of liberalism also.
What Menand is saying is that modernity & liberalism are inseperable & indivisible. This is where the post-liberal outs himself as a conservative Im afraid.
The role of the conservative is to stand athwart history yelling stop, right? Perhaps it would be lovely to live in world free of all constraints not freely chosen by each individual but that isnt the world we live in. We live in a world with constraints, including human biology.
You: hold on a minute, so are you saying that ‘post-liberalism’ is a species of the genus ‘conservatism’?
