History lesson on the "I am in fact straight" tweets and why people need to stop using them as proof since people don't seem to understand anything about them: a long and informative thread
This thread will contain Larry history too, but if that triggers you, or you don't believe in it, feel free to skip those parts. I'll label them with (L) at the beginning. Either way this should be enough for you to understand why the tweets are horrible.
On October 30th, 2014, Tim Cook who is the CEO of Apple came out as gay. He faced a lot of public scrutiny for his decision to do so as he was one of the first LGBTQ+ CEOs in history and Apple is one of biggest, most well respected companies in the world.
On November 3rd, 2014, 1D did an interview where H*rry said the following 3 remarks: "Female? Not that important", "You don't want to date a dickhead do you?", and "Don't knock [sleeping with men] until you try it"
So what H*rry did in short, was align himself publicly in some way with the LGTBQ+ community for one of the first times outright. He had done a similar thing in San Siro by saying "I'd do N*all. Happy pride." He remains the only member of One Direction to ever do this publicly.
Some people took it as a joke at the time, but seeing that he is fairly open now about not exclusively being attracted to women, we can assume it was not a joke. His body language also seems to signify that he was defying the managers wishes when the comments were made.
If this indication is true, then it would seem that he was simply fed up with hiding his true self. The fact that these interviews were put out on the internet means that it's likely the managers/label didn't see too much harm to his image by doing so.
The comments weren't completely "damning" to the point where people would assume something was off unless they already assumed H wasn't straight. Which was true because people who believed he was straight at the time thought he was joking around.
Back to Iouis, on Nov 7th, 2014, he wore the outfit pictured in this tweet. The rainbow apple logo seemed to insinuate public support for Tim Cook coming out only 7 days prior. The fact that these were pap pics seemed to indicate they were purposefully taken to show support.
Iouis had made remarks about supporting LGBTQ+ fans in the past, and had also worn rainbow shirts before. However, this was the first time it seemed to be completely tied to a certain situation that was highly controversial. This was only 3 days after H's comments.
(L) So with H's comments and L's shirt happening within 3 days of each other, larries were preparing for some kind of coming out. They thought that everything was about to go down, and made a semi big deal about it at the time.
(L) On Nov 9, 2014, the Four hangout happened. During this interview, there is a part where Ben Winston is pressing he boys about odd rumors they've heard about themselves. H says they've all been "dead" before, and seems to try and drop the conversation.
(L) Ben keeps pressing though, and L says that he "knows there must be something" before shielding his face and whispering "no" very sarcastically. H then says "some of them I quite like." The conversation moves on.
(L) A lot of people speculate that with the recent events and Larries going crazy with theories, there was supposed to be a Larry denial here during the rumors conversation which is why Ben kept pressing it. This is not confirmed by any means but could make sense.
On Nov 10, 2014, an article is written about Iouis wearing the rainbow shirt. The author, Jenn Selby, praises Iouis for his support of the LGBTQ+ community and Tim Cook. It was admirable for a person with as big a platform as him to bring light on this issue in a positive way.
On nov 11, 2014, Louis tweeted these about the article which caused a lot of angry 1D fans who didn't read the article to go hate on the woman who wrote it. They called her a bitch, sent death threats to her, and just attacked her online.
The author of the article was right to defend herself against Iouis's accusations against her. Not only were his tweets homophobic, they were also misogynistic. He denounces in his tweets any desire to be considered an ally to the LGBTQ+ community.
If you google "Louis Tomlinson LGBTQ+" the first things to pop up are articles slamming him for his homophobic words in these tweets and for denouncing his title as an ally instead of the fans who say the exact opposite things about him.
So if you believe that L tweeted those tweets, you believe the public narrative of him being homophobic whether you realize it or not. It isn't, nor has it ever been, about Iarry. It's about whether you think L is homophobic or not. Thank you for your time :)
I got asked to link instances showcasing that L is not homophobic like the tweets suggest so here is a great thread about L as a person that includes his inclusivity towards all fans https://twitter.com/twofallingwalls/status/1310630613435559937?s=21
