Memory isn't stored in neurons, memory is stored in water
I think something along the lines of Roger Penrose's Orch-OR theory of conciousness may also play a role here

Memory may exist within neurons, not as a function of neurons, such as in the organization of DHA "wires" by low level electromagnetism (re: Michael Crawford)
The idea that water plays a role in memory isn't my own, a few prominent neurologists and water researchers have suggested different variations on this to explain the fact that removing large parts of the brain does not remove large portions of memory
There's also the fact that diseases like dementia have a huge impact on memory, while the neurons are left almost entirely intact

I think there's some merit to water memory, especially since water structure is already known to play a role in cell signalling
Nice explanation from a article that cites many of my favorite researchers in this field
