DISCLAIMER: I& #39;ve been a suju stan for 9 years and have been collecting albums for about 6 years (since I got my own job and had my own income) every single album was bought by ME! I& #39;m definitely not rich or trying to brag but I& #39;m proud of my collection and love it a lot!
I& #39;ve learned a ton in my years of collecting and want to help people who might be interested in starting or building their collection! If you have any questions please feel free to dm me or ask through curiouscat https://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="☺️" title="Lächelndes Gesicht" aria-label="Emoji: Lächelndes Gesicht"> OKAY NOW ON TO THE ADVICE
1) SET YOUR OWN GOALS/LIMITS its important that you know what you& #39;re willing to spend, store and invest into your collection and setting limits is important! For example I dont really buy japanese releases because they& #39;re often more expensive and usually dont have photobooks—
—it& #39;s also perfectly okay to change these limits as your collection goes! I used to only buy one version of an album but then when I had more of an expendable income I expanded to buying multiple versions https://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="😅" title="Lächelndes Gesicht mit offenem Mund und Angstschweiß" aria-label="Emoji: Lächelndes Gesicht mit offenem Mund und Angstschweiß"> Just try to set personal limits and stay with them as long as you can.
2) BE PATIENT: unless your bias group debuted yesterday you can& #39;t expect to own their entire discography in a day. Maybe make a wishlist and prioritize it accordingly (which I& #39;ll get into later) But be patient because you dont want to panic and buy an overpriced ebay listing
3) FOCUS ON ONE GROUP: multis I& #39;m sorry! For beginners try and focus on collecting one group at a time (I havent always followed this rule though lol) Collecting can not only be super overwhelming but trying to keep up on multiple groups releases can be very expensive very fast
4) TRY AND FOCUS ON PURCHASING NEW RELEASES: kpop albums do go out of print quite fast and trying to predict when an album will start running out of stock is nearly impossible (looking at you dne danger albumhttps://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="👀" title="Augen" aria-label="Emoji: Augen">) To the best of your ability try and buy new releases within months—
—of the album being released. Unfortunately as soon as an album goes out of print that allows resellers to immediately upsell that album for way more than it originally cost. So in order to get the best price I really recommend buying albums as they get released.
The next few tips are mostly for collecting older groups such as suju that have lots of out of print albums :) Because buying out of print albums is totally different from buying in print albums
5) RARE ALBUMS some out of print albums are more rare and have more expensive price tags, if you& #39;re unsure about whether a price is fair reach out to collectors in your fandom who will probably be willing to share how much they paid for an album and if the seller is being fair :)
6) CROSSLINK PRICES when shopping for an album i& #39;ll often have 5+ tabs open of different websites and listings to try and find the best price possible, which may seem extra when the difference is only a few dollars but it adds up!
7) SNS BUY/SELL GROUPS are your best friend! they usually have fans trying to sell their albums rather than sellers and fans are much less likely to try and rip you off. Always pay with g/s paypal though just in case! And always ask for lots of pictures—
—(I always ask for a pic with the albums + my name written on a piece of paper just to be safe) This is just to cover all bases and avoid being scammed. Always trust your instincts, and if a transaction seems sketchy you& #39;re probably right and shouldnt complete it!
8) DONT FEEL FORCED TO BUY KPOP ALBUMS I buy albums because I feel like i& #39;m supporting my fave artists and because I often look through the photobooks and just enjoy having them, but you should never feel obligated to spend money, and it doesnt make you any & #39;more& #39; of a fan
NOW FOR WHERE I BUY MY ALBUMS:
AS A CANADIAN KPOP fan shipping is always going to be expensive and often more than the album itself, that& #39;s just something I had to accept when it came to collecting, To try and reduce fees you can join group orders or bulk buy with friends otherwise... you& #39;re on your own :(
I& #39;ve never had a bad experience with ktown4u and I think they& #39;re the first site a lot of kpop fans go to (when using these kpop sites I always recommend using paypal since their websites are very rarely & #39;secure& #39; which just means its potentially easier to have credit info stolen—
—which sounds scary but its so rare tbh but yeah just to be safe I always recommend using paypal!) I use kpoptown a lot (mainly because i for some reason never have to pay customs on my kpoptown packages? which if youre canadian you know the customs struggleshttps://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="🤑" title="Gesicht mit Geld-Mund" aria-label="Emoji: Gesicht mit Geld-Mund">
but I have had some issues with kpoptown not packaging things safely enough (two of my bad blood albums arrived a tiny bit damaged for example) but when it comes to eliminating the customs fee it& #39;s worth it for me tbh. Always read site reviews and a lot of kpop collectors are on—
—youtube and have full video reviews of online stores and their experiences with them! (They also probably have youtube videos with much better advice on collecting than what I can fit into a twitter thread)
BUYEE is a website I found lots of older suju merch for reasonable prices (its a website that allows you to shop on japanese buy/sell sites where there& #39;s a much larger kpop audience) but beware they charge a small fee for processing your orders and shipping costs arent—
—calculated upfront, and arent added on until buyee receives what you ordered and the shipping for multiple albums can be SUPER EXPENSIVE but keep an eye out cause the website does do big sales on shipping for holidays and stuff. I have used the website so if you& #39;re curious to—
—learn more about buyee please reach out in dms or something like that where I can go more in depth without character limits!
AND THATS about all the advice I have, I& #39;m not sure if this thread was helpful in any way, trying to explain stuff in character limits was way harder than I thought. Again, if you do have any questions please reach out I& #39;m not scary I promise and would love to nerd out about kpop
