and some of the issues that AP was talking about it goes like this... when you run a platform and people upload videos, the videos have to go somewhere they have to go on some remote computer or some remote storage platform so they can be stored and retrieved+
and this is where amazon of all people comes in bcuz amazon offers a storage solution called S3 which a fair share of the internet uses to store files in what are called buckets and amazon s3 uses an incredibly confusing pricing setup where its not clear whats going on:
and its made like this bcuz the costs can quickly go completely out of control if the traffic is crazy and there there are a bunch of fees: storage fees, transfer fees, traffic fees, tag fees, there are so many tiny costs that fuckin scale up and the bills can go nuts
and the genius of it for amazon is that once you've been using it for a long time you can't just pack up your toys and say you don't wanna play anymore bcuz its going to cost you bags and bags of money to get all your shit off there and moved some where else+
while they're charging you for every single part of the process... but thats amazon for you and s3 is part of how homeboy got all that money bcuz theres a sizable part of the internet that is dependent on amazon S3 for storing all their data
