TW// Murder of Indigenous people

Joyce Echaquan was a 37 year old Indigenous woman who was part of the Atikamekw de Manawan community. She went to get treated at the Joliette Hospital for stomach pain but never made it out. She was killed on Monday by racist nurses.
Joyce spent a lot of time on a gurney in the hallway before being moved to a private room. Her pain worsened and nurses began to inject her with incredibly large doses of morphine despite Joyce refusing. Joyce had a history of cardiac issues and a severe allergy to morphine.
Fearing for her life, Joyce took her phone out and went on live to seek help. In the footage (that we will not share here because it is quite traumatizing) she is heard screaming in pain and asking for help. The most terrifying part of the clip was the comments from the nurses.
The nurses are heard insulting her, calling her overweight, calling her stupid, saying she is unable to take care of herself, that she’s only good for sex, that she is better off dead and more. They murdered her and the last things she heard were people dehumanizing her.
When we talk about systemic racism, this what we mean. When we talk about the lives of indigenous people being neglected, this is what we mean. Indigenous people are the most disrespected and harmed group in the province. Had her death not been recorded we would NEVER know.
Our prime minister @francoislegault had the audacity to say that we don’t have systemic racism in our province. CONCEALED racism does not mean it is ABSENT. What would we find out if every single person of colour live-streamed their hospital visits?
Joyce was a mother of seven. She went to the hospital for stomach pain and became another victim to the system. We will not let her story be forgotten. Please donate to the GoFundMe created in her name. PROTECT INDIGENOUS PEOPLE! https://gf.me/u/y2z9wu
