Finally got round to watching the Newcastle game. Carroll's penalty was won just under 2 minutes into the 5 additional minutes (so still 3 minutes to play at the point) Play was restarted around 97:08, meaning play should continue until minute 100 at least, right?
If you want to be even more accurate, there was around 50 seconds between Newcastle scoring and play restarting. So play could easily have continued until the 101st minute.
The ref blew for FT at 98:10 (20 seconds after the ball had gone out of play).
Essentially Spurs were given around 40 seconds to score when there was 2-3 minutes of game-time left. Under no circumstances should VAR decisions be wiping out 3 minutes of actual game-time. Absolutely no idea why this time wasn't added on.
Of course, the main talking point has been how that should never have been a penalty. But this is another very valid talking point when it comes to VAR. It should be there to aid the football, not become the spectacle itself.
