1/ Thread on Manufacturing Athletes

If I had a kid today, I’d have him/her play every sport, get them lessons for each sport ~10yo to teach them a solid foundation and get myself info to teach if asked for help.

Then, I’d stop going to the lessons and just let them play. 👇
2/ Would I specialize? No. It’s taking opportunity away from my kid. Would I play year round? No.

I’d tell them to throw as fast as they can, run as fast as they can, jump as high as they can and swing as fast as they can.

The best athletes are built around explosive movements.
3/ Adding maturity and strength to explosiveness will have compounding effects.

I’d do an annual check-in with a mechanics coach to make sure their mechanics were on the right path.

I’d wait to figure out what their passion is in sports, then get more lessons ~13-15 years old
4/ The most important thing is keeping our young athletes healthy while teaching them explosiveness and proper mechanics.

The athlete that wins in the long run is the one who can stay in the game.

Health in sports is everything.
5/ The thing I’ve learned is that the best athletes played everything. Played hard. Played all out. And only specialized once they had to.

Ultimately, athletes are manufactured by passion and working as hard as they can when no one is watching.
6/ We will always do whatever we can to get our kids ahead in life.

From everything I’ve learned in sports over 40 years of coaching, I’ll leave you with this.

The GOATs you see on TV are still kids who are out there feeling the power of play.
