Louisville is not okay. Organizers are not okay. Young ones in the movement are not okay. I'm not okay.
Those of us who've been in the street for 4 months on end are dealing with exhaustion on multiple levels.
Folks who've come from out of state have said, "your police department is the most aggressive we've seen." And, as someone who was in Ferguson, I can tell you they're right.
Their aggression, tactical maneuvers and psychological warfare is unmatched. They shoot flash bangs into crowds where children are present without dispersal warnings first. They baton us randomly (this happened to me personally Wednesday- see attached).
They arrest before curfew and cite violation of curfew as one of the charges. They charge lead organizers & elected officials with arson when there is video evidence to the contrary. They kettle us in parking lots with bearcats and cement blocks.
They beat folks who are marching, splitting heads (literally) and then gagging the person so they can barely speak while being hauled off on a stretcher. They target ARA folks and dox this shit out of them and their families. They fly drones with guns overhead.
They surround a church that has declared itself a safe zone for protestors after curfew. They hold the church and protestors hostage for hours into the night, while trying to get confirmation from their legal that they can storm the property. (Confirmation never came)
They use the National Guard to come into the West End and kill the BBQ man, David McAtee. And use a paid agitator with mental health issues to kill another innocent citizen, Tyler Gerth at the Square.
In 4 months, we've lost two people in the midst of this movement. We are tired. But we are not finished.
