"This is all down to the human rights work that we were doing and the government not wanting to answer questions we raised, whether it's in terms of our investigations into the Delhi riots, or the silencing of voices in Jammu and Kashmir." https://twitter.com/RanaAyyub/status/1310825253359087616
"In a report released last month, the group said police in the Indian capital, Delhi, committed human rights violations during deadly religious riots between Hindus and Muslims in February."

That violence was sparked by corrosive rhetoric and disinformation on FACEBOOK
I don't wish to whitewash the complex cultures and histories that exist in India and Pakistan. I've always been interested in the region, but it's a place I have not yet visited. I don't want to pretend expertise in the geopolitical dynamics beyond "interested observer"
Having said that, it's clear that @Facebook has taken sides (the side of the highest bidder, if I'm not mistaken) in order to use corrosive rhetoric to fuel historic resentments and fears against already marginalized ethnic and religious groups.

Does that sound familiar?
Facebook is responsible for derailing peace agreements, splitting apart families, destroying complex and delicate negotiations between individuals, political parties, entire countries. It has used its filthy tactics to redraw entire balances of power -- ahead of a projected
major set of anthropogenic changes in the planet's that will set off cascading social effects and lead to widespread shortages and chaos if we do not take steps to mitigate them. That means global cooperation is more important now than it has ever been.
And @Facebook is fucking it up -- for what? For money? For a bigger slice of the pie? To be climate warlords? Boys, you're gonna be the ones who get attacked and devoured in the first five minutes of the movie, you're not tough enough to survive what you're inflicting on us all.
But for now, it's easy to write all this off as just the way the cookie crumbles, because it's not affecting rich, stupid twats in Silicon Valley. Instead, it's affecting the already marginalized. https://www.hrw.org/news/2020/07/17/indias-police-found-complicit-anti-muslim-mob-violence
Here's how it works in practice ( @Channel4News story from yesterday.) Check out the real-world ramifications starting around 8:30 or so. Now imagine that pattern playing out home by home, street by street, account by account, all over the world.
