This is Umair’s kid sis again, back for a rage-filled thread. I’m on my period, and I’m pissed.

Look at this headline from the New York Times. I’m not linking to it because this fascism-normalising trash does not deserve clicks.

Now let’s unpack it.
First, let’s start with the facts. The whistleblower, Dawn Wooten, has said that women in the concentration camps were being given hysterectomies without their consent. That is—they were forcibly sterilised. One could summarise: forced mass hysterectomies. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-54160638
That is to say, women who are imprisoned in these concentration camps are being misled and coerced under armed guard, taken into surgery, put under anaesthesia, and mutilated. Their organs cut out. They awaken unaware that they can never have children again.
WHETHER OR NOT THEY WANTED TO, that choice has been taken from them. Their bodily autonomy has been taken from them. They have been put to sleep, cut up, and violated.
And yes, forced hysterectomies can fall under one of the legal definitions of genocide. https://www.un.org/en/genocideprevention/genocide.shtml
Now let’s move on to how the New York Times has put it.

“Immigrants say they were pressured into unneeded surgeries.”

Sorry, but what the ever loving fuck?
No, not “immigrants,” NYT. Migrant *women* stuck in concentration camps.

Don’t erase the fact that this is violence against *women.*
“Pressured into unneeded surgeries” is such an egregious understatement that I don’t know how anyone can write that and still sleep at night. They weren’t “pressured.” It wasn’t an “unneeded surgery.” It was a forced sterilisation of defenceless women trapped in a camp.
“Invasive gynaecological procedures...”

Sorry, does saying “forced hysterectomy” hurt your feelings? Your delicate sensibilities?

A forced hysterectomy isn’t just a “gyn procedure.” It’s a violation with lasting, lifelong consequences. It robs a woman of her future choices.
“...procedures that they later learned might have been unnecessary.”

...I genuinely have no words for this part. It genuinely hurts me to see violence against women sugarcoated like this.
This is a prime example of how the American media has normalised fascism and failed their duty of educating and informing the public. The NYT should be telling people that this could fit the legal definition of genocide. It should be calling them concentration camps.
At the very least it should, in the headline, note the extreme extent of the “gynaecological procedures.”

They’re hysterectomies. FORCED HYSTERECTOMIES. This isn’t a Pap smear.

To me, this is bordering on dishonest and disingenuous.
One detainee said it was like “an experimental concentration camp.” Dawn Wooten, the whistleblower, called a doctor involved “the uterus collector.”

Why are these not the headlines?
I’m going to leave it there for my mental health. But it makes me think about how uninformed people who digest this kind of media uncritically must be. And how that’s exactly where the fascists want them.
