1)Just an afternoon thread! "I would welcome an independence referendum” says Mike Hedges in his article to the Welsh Fabian Society! he is gracious enough to agree that Wales is “neither too small nor too poor to be independent” Good to hear Mike!
2) um? “Wales would be poorer than we are now with a combination of higher taxes and poorer public services” are we not already poor? our public services stretched! lacking investment! is not our current poverty because of the pyramid selling scheme that is Westminster?
3)Wales pays £2bn in interest payment to the UK treasury now! 10% of Wales’ total revenue! value for money? If this debt reflected current interest payments of 0.02% on sovereign bonds issued by a Welsh government we could be borrowing £100bn for this level of repayment!
4) Even at an interest rate of 5%, £40 billion would be available. An Indy Wales could be borrowing much more money to tackle our public services our poor infrastructure and pay less for it! Now! Little wonder we are poor now! pyramid selling scheme in full flow!
5) Economics a side, this Union is not 2 countries, there are 4 relationships at play here, Scot. and NI-how long will they stay in the marital bed? Polls suggest an independent Scot. and reunification of NI What happens to England&Wales- (purposely typed with no gaps!)?
6) The currency and central bank question; in my journey as a supporter, understanding why something is in place is a logical start; Central banks were established in the 1700’s because of the financial needs of the state, mainly in war!
7) CB are authorities responsible for policies that affect a country’s supply of money and credit. No fewer than 25 central banks have been established since World War II. Out of interest, the pound comes from the Latin pondus, a pound weight of silver!
8) Iceland is the 2nd smallest country by pop. (364,134) to have its own currency, monetary policy and central Bank. Tis a manmade system, born out of the state of war 63 countries have claimed their indy from the UK, enough prior precedence and expertise in these matters!
