Recently went on a house-hunt with a friend and it dawned on me after the whole waka that, being a tenant in Nigeria is actually hard work.

Now imagine what it is like to want to own a house of your choice in Nigeria.

Double wahala!
From agents trying to rent out dilapidated houses to us, to overpriced ghetto houses, and expensive houses built with inferior materials, I totally gave up on owning a house, especially when I saw how much it would cost to rent a house that I deem appropriate.

Very tiring!
The house agent even had the guts to take us to a house that is pretty expensive, yet the amount of renovation to be done on the house lasan was almost the entire annual rent.

Talmbout; "Landlord nor de renovate house..." 😭😭😭
Nigeria already has a housing deficit, where we have just 22 million houses meant to cater to an estimated 200 million people.

As for me, I feel say na ment because the deficit is huge, and worse still, we're not trying to close the gap.
What I find amusing is that the private players in the Nigerian real estate sector are not looking at the bigger market that is the low-income earners.

Everybody wants to build a luxury this, luxury that but end up building an unaffordable ghetto.
That is why you will move around a hood like Arab Road in Abuja and house agents will be showing cubicle flats for 800k annually and that is not even inclusive of the agency and commission fees.
The stress of renting an apartment in Nigeria will frustrate your dreams of owning a house entirely.

Look at your income, look at the costs of owning a house and then calculate how much help (cost and time) you'll need to realize your dreams of owning a house. 😭😭😭
