A few thoughts about the game last night. A lot of fans are critical of our performance. But we have to bear in mind that Klopp has had 6 seasons to develop Liverpool into one of the best teams in world football and there isn’t a harder place to go than Anfield to get a result.
Arteta on the other hand has had 9 months in his first managerial role and Arsenal are still very much a work in progress. People were critical about our midfield but I’m certain Arteta knows our limitations and is doing his best to bring in new additions to rectify this.
Not too many teams can cope with a Liverpool side in full flow but despite that we stayed in the game till the 88th minute. There were two key moments in the game which could have changed the outcome. The first was Mane’s assault on Tierney in the 2nd minute of the game.
He’d already gone in late on Bellerin in the first minute and Mane moved towards Tierney smashing his elbow in his face. It was clearly a straight red card & I’m amazed the yellow card wasn’t changed to a red when reviewed by VAR. A terrible decision that Liverpool got away with.
The second turning point was the miss by Lacazette when clean through one-on-one with the keeper. You don’t get many chances against Liverpool & you have to take a glorious opportunity like that. You could by Lacca’s body language when sitting on the bench that he knew it as well
However we shouldn’t be too disheartened. We will come back from this and Arteta will add new players to the squad. Players that are his choices and not players that he’s been lumbered with. I think he’s done a great job up to now with what he’s had to work with in the short time
he’s had at the club. Be patient and I’m sure he’ll build us a team to be proud of.
