Am thinking of all of my friends and colleagues who are starting in-person teaching this week (and indeed other weeks). Really terrifying that staff have been forced back into the classroom by the uni during a local lockdown of all times.
As a temporary solution in a crisis, online teaching would have been just as good as (if not better than) having staff attempt to replicate normal classes in a socially distanced manner, from behind a facemask, scared for their health & unable to walk around the room.
And this is on top of all the online teaching they need to do, given that the department also offers a distance-learning option for each module to students who would prefer that, so colleagues essentially doing twice the amount of work for no extra pay.
And also on top of all the extra COVID-related stuff Laura lists in this thread. https://twitter.com/cambiechoo/status/1309466442363002881
With the UCU strikes last academic year and, more recently, the COVID-19 response, the last 12 months have really laid bare how little this university cares about the quality of teaching and research and about the wellbeing of its staff and students.
