it's always interestin discussing d&d 5e online because someone will invariably bring pathfinder to the discussion and it feels, to me, that people just don't see how pathfinder is fundamentally a game about Skills while 5e is about Stats and how much that affects design
i played PF for a bit, and i know for a fact that it's pretty early, level wise, that your skill point investments + magic bonuses outclass natural Stats.
5e is the complete opposite, and i'm never sure if that's by design or if it's a consequence of bounded accuracy
it takes 13 whole levels (outta 20) for proficiency in 5e to equalize to the max bonus Stats can give (by default), if you never play rogue/bard and never achieve level 13 you'll always feel your stats play a major role in how good your char is doing at things
anyway, i read an article about grouping 5e's skills into 5 groups and i got mad so have this thread
