Dear Baby ARMYs,
If you look up Idol, you'll see it's considered to be multiple genres, including samul nori. Samul nori literally means "play with four things" and it's a traditional Korean music made from percussion instruments, often performed while dancing and spinning.💜🇰🇷
There are many samul nori and other traditional Korean music elements in Idol. The spinning jumps in the choreo is one example. Also are the exclamations of "ursoo joutah", "jihwaja joutah", & "donggiteok deoreureureu", which are used in traditional music to add energy and flow.
One of the things ARMYs love about this song is how much it celebrates their Korean identity and heritage. Here they are as global artists and they are declaring as loud as they can, with as much Korean pride as they can, "You can't stop me loving myself!"
One of the most legendary stages BTS ever gave us was the Idol performance at the Melon Music Awards 2018. It is a must for every ARMY to check it out.

(It was so iconic that MMA fixed an editing error that they made during broadcast and reuploaded it.)
Oh! And how can I forget? Joon also includes samul nori in his verse for Cypher 4! When he says, "I'll be the drum, just hit me hard; Let's just try it, samulnori, bae", he's invoking the imagery of the traditional Korean drumming! Gosh, he's a genius. 🥰
