Probably a good thing that Justice Matthew Palmer, former heavyweight academic and son of the Bill of Rights Act architect Sir Geoffrey Palmer was the ‘duty judge’ last Wednesday when NZ First came calling for an injunction vs the SFO.
Citing the Bill of Rights
Act’s right for the public *to receive information* Justice Palmer rejected Nz First’s bid to keep the prosecutions related to its funding foundation secret until after a government is formed.
He also looked at its grounds for a substantial challenge to the SFO actions that might yet come later via Judicial Review - and didn’t find them ‘particularly strong’. He’d seen no evidence the SFO had been politically influenced or that the public should not know.
