1/ I was able to take a much-needed vacation from Twitter for over two weeks, and although I actually need more time to complete some offline projects, this juicy little tweet lured me back.
As the woke say, there is some stuff to unpack here. https://twitter.com/LAPDHQ/status/1310786933677645824">https://twitter.com/LAPDHQ/st...

2/ First, let& #39;s begin with the approximate 4:3 female-to-male ratio, and the following fact: Only about 1 out of every 1000 females is as strong as the average male.

3/ Suppose your basic 145-pound Chicanx LAPD lady cop is in a physical situation with a 235-pound male suspect in an alleyway — isn& #39;t she going to be more likely to discharge her weapon than a much-stronger male cop due her huge strength disadvantage?
4/ Also, although I& #39;m all in favor of having fewer people of pallor on police forces — ultimately it will put a dent in the myth of “racist” police violence toward people of color when the colored cops themselves are doing most of the shooting — it does raise this question:
5/ Why don& #39;t we see more black cops on big city police forces around the country?
Since most violent crime in these cities involves blacks living in predominantly-black neighborhoods, wouldn& #39;t it make sense to pack police departments with black patrol officers?

6/ Yes, it would, but as in so many areas of American life the problem comes down to this intractable fact: The IQ distribution of African-Americans doesn& #39;t make this easy.
7/ The average police officer needs an IQ of at least 105 (very slightly above the white average) to perform his job adequately. (The testing requirement in larger cities is probably a few points higher.)
This excludes all but around 10% of blacks, making hiring difficult.

8/ A black person with an IQ of, say, 110 or above is part of the African-American cognitive elite, more or less, and probably doesn& #39;t see himself walking the Compton beat when affirmative action and diversity hiring offers him smoother paths to safer and more lucrative fields.
