I'm one of the hundreds of central-based @NYCSchools employees who've been notified this wknd we've been reassigned to “assist in supporting schools & provide supervision of Ss as needed”.

I genuinely hope can be useful but am incredibly alarmed/upset by the entire process. 1/
1st red flag is that there has been no mention of requiring any central-based employee to get tested or come into a new school community w a negative test. Personally, I feel uncomfortable w being a part of this. But as a non-unionized employee, my only option rn is to comply. 2/
2nd major piece of discomfort is the timing & way this has been rolled out. Instead of implementing those common sense measures last week (or god-forbid, weeks ago?), we have a zero-business day turnaround on where we're to report, w no requirement to get tested? Wild stuff. 3/
Was originally assigned to a school w an actual 2-hr commute via pub transportation. Thankfully was reassigned to a closer school w help & advocacy from my office. 🙏

Nevertheless, not sure how I'll be used or what I'll be doing. 4/
There are so many more thoughts, but I'll leave it as this: part of me is relieved bc many central employees (myself included) have been watching all this unfold from the safety of being able to work remotely, & have been detached from the situation in schools. 5/
On the other hand, to me this entire process from the summer through today has been sad, disheartening, infuriating, trust-sapping, unsafe, & eye-opening to how these types of decisions can unfold. 6/
After moving away from the classroom, I've always seen my role as an advocate for an education system where transparency, critical thinking & respectful dissent were values that improve the organization, our schools, & Ss education. Gonna to keep doing so in this moment. 7/
