In the US, black voters were targeted with propaganda to deter them from voting. Voter turnout in black communities dropped dramatically in 2016.

Behaviour modification is possible with micro targeting. There’s a reason advertising is a big business. Because it works.
But this form of advertising is specifically geared toward the individual voter. Advertisements were developed for individuals, not groups of people.

How did those ads get so specific?

Facebook and Cambridge Analytica.
Basically, if you connect to the web, you’re being monitored. Every purchase you make, every website you visit. How long you peruse a site, what you click on. That information is collecte & monitored and stored in data bases as data points for each individual.
But it doesn’t stop there. Facebook also watches you with their facial recognition software. When you read, browse, and react to what’s on the screen, you are emoting feelings. Because you’re typically alone or unaware you’re being watched.

Alexa does this too. And Siri.
When you download apps to play games or collect your own fitness data, all the information that can be collected as data points is sent to data bases as raw data. The information piles up.
This documentary states at least 5000 data points of information per person is held on 200M Americans.

That kind of information capacity means individual behaviour can be predicted.

And if it can be predicted, it can be influenced and shaped. On an individual basis.
That is how Facebook makes profits. That’s Silicon Valley’s business model. Called human futures, Facebook and other network based businesses sell ads to corporations who pay for the privilege of micro targeting the individuals that respond to influence predictably.
You don’t know you want to buy that car, but ads for the Ford Escape just keep popping up everywhere you browse. It’s almost like the internet knows your car is on its last legs and you need a new one. That’s because the AI & algorithm can predict your behaviour. They do know.
Facebook has been doing this since it’s inception. Apple, Google, Microsoft, and multiple other Silicon Valley companies use this business model to make money.

This documentary demonstrates elections are now being influenced. At the micro level.
Databases that can predict behaviour are used to identify voters that can be influenced. It’s those voters that are micro targeted.

The analysis of the individuals strengths and weaknesses is clearly laid out in the 5K data points or more.
And that’s how Donald Trump stole the last election.

Cambridge Analytica convinced enough black people to stay home and not vote for Clinton, and influenced more whites to vote Trump. Just enough to win by less than 79,000 votes in three key states.
Assisted by Putin, the American electorate were tricked into buying a faulty product.

And that same strategy is being used here in Canada.
