***AUDITION ETIQUETTE STORY THREAD***

Recently I had a talk with one of my casting clients about moving all casting into private/recommendation casting. The reason was that they had gotten multiple messages from people that made them highly anxious with the process. (1/11)
These included the following

"I'll do it for free"
"Why Didn't you cast me"
"I really wanted to play them"
"Can I send it until I get it right"

This is a general summary of what my client received before/during and after the call. It almost turned them off public CCs. (2/11)
Now I convinced them to keep the casting public for the project but this is something I wanted to bring up.

"How you act not only affects this opportunity for you, but future opportunities for everyone else."

This project almost went to private casting because of this. (3/11)
Now this is an extreme example, but the fact it is one shows that these types of actions/behaviors can have more drastic consequences. Of course there will always be new projects and new opportunities to you, but if someone doesn't want the stress again, that could be an..(4/11)
...opportunity lost to you and many others as they go through more private methods.

I always want to do public calls because I want to give everyone a chance. But if it's gonna result in my clients getting anxiety/stress because of auditioners behaviors, I won't continue. (5/11)
So Here is a list of things to avoid doing.

-Don't offer to work for free. You undermine yourself and
the other actors in your field. More seasoned people will avoid you immediately.

-If you don't get the part, don't guilt the dev or CD for not casting you....(6/11)
....This includes things like,
-"Aww I really wanted to play that"
- "So I didn't get it",
-"Could I get some feedback (If they don't offer don't ask. Unless it's your audio or acting, you just didn't fit as well as this person)

-Don't lash out...(7/11)
.....We will remember those who are hostile and we tell other devs/CDs to look out for this person.

-Don't ask for constant updates or ask them what they thought of your audition. That puts us on the spot. You can of course ask questions if you need help however! (8/11)
What can you do instead?

-Read the doc and look all over for the details! That should hopefully give you clear instructions and answer your questions!

-Send and move on (Same as fire and forget but more accurate)

-Wish the project the best regardless of the results! (9/11)
-We remember the bad, but we also remember the nice and pleasant!

-If you didn't get it, congratulate the person who did and don't mention wanting the part.

-Remember that casting is not personal, and it's not indicative of you as an actor!

(10/11)
So that's all I wanted to say on this. And I hope I've shown how actions like those can hinder not only you, but those around you to future opportunities. Be nice to the Devs and CDs y'all, because we want to give you the chance! So please take it easy on us đź’śđź’ś (11/11)
