1,397 new COVID-19 cases were reported today in Texas.
The 7-day average is 2,866 cases per day (lowest since June 19).

In addition, 2,688 backlogged cases were reported today (2,375 in Bexar County and 313 in Harris County).

In addition to this, there are 526 cases that I currently can't account for because DSHS' numbers do not add up.

There are 3,201 Texans currently hospitalized, down 16 from yesterday.

4.79% of active cases currently require hospitalization.

A record 154,848 new molecular test results were reported for yesterday (DSHS posts test numbers a day late). Some of these are likely backlogged older tests.

Texas is reporting a record 78,465 test results a day.

The 7-day positive rate in Texas is now 5.94% (the first time below 6% since May 23).

(Note: this positive rate metric uses the date that tests were taken, NOT when results were reported. Therefore, the positive rate is not affected by backlogged results).

DSHS has updated its formula for counting recoveries. As of today, all backlogged cases are automatically considered recovered.
