Hey, what's a band that has a lot of known songs but no real signature song? We did that minivan rock list and Matchbox Twenty should have been real high on it but they didn't have that one song to represent them, all their hits just split the vote
First one that comes to mind for me: Belle & Sebastian? They seem to have many songs and albums people like but nothing that's obviously more prominent than any others
People offering lots of examples but the first one I've heard I'd really agree with is Everclear
Van Morrison is a possible example in that he has one obvious song that's way bigger than the others but it's so unrepresentative of his work, and no clear frontrunner in his more Van Morrison-y songs
Also: U2? I think it'd have to be one of the three big singles from The Joshua Tree. But then, "Sunday Bloody Sunday"? "One"? Too hard to say, I think they'd count
There are a lot of bands that don't have a consensus signature song but for which I have my own answers that I have strong feelings about and won't be budged.
What I got from this thread is that I have thought a lot harder about this question than most people. I had immediate answers for most artists, and a lot of them shouldn't have even be suggested. Queen has a signature song, I'm not even gonna dignify this by naming it
