When you try to argue your robots aren't racist because you were inspired by a book first published in 1939 that argued that Europe went through a special and unique "civilizing" process that created the modern world 🤔 https://twitter.com/baumard_nicolas/status/1310238858257334272
Sometimes it's not that Twitter is ganging up on you, it's actually that your ideas are genuinely harmful. Historians, art historians, and others have spent decades trying to show how the construction of the idea of "European civilization" fueled colonialism and genocide.
Just like scientific disciplines, history, art history, and other disciplines in the humanities also evolve and change. I doubt you'd argue that the technology of early 20th c. vacuum tubes underpins your work on machine learning. Elias is the vacuum tubes of modern sociology.
