It frustrates me to say it, but by the end of Pep’s and Klopp’s tenures in England, the German will have not only a stronger legacy, but a claim to have outmatched the Catalan by a large margin. Especially in Europe.
Liverpool were unlucky vs Real Madrid, then won the UCL and would have been the only team to actually challenge Bayern last season if it wasn’t for the bad luck vs Atletico Madrid.
Klopp is only part of Liverpool’s tremendous success, their data department is state of the start and the way they conducted themselves in the transfer market has been nothing short of outstanding. Edwards and Gordon are special directors too, credit where it's due.
The Thiago signing was outrageous from any standpoint. Bayern just won a treble and you sign their best performer in the final for a symbolic fee in their terms and without competition? Holy shit, it’s not normal.
It’s interesting. Liverpool’s continuous downfall during the best part of thirty years was because of their unwillingness to change and insistence on outdated methods. Now they have turned themselves into trailblazers for a new football era, you bet they should be given credit.
Don’t get me wrong, Manchester City are a wonderfully managed club, easily one of the world’s very best. Only Liverpool and Bayern better them nowadays, it’s just that FSG have done things better than anyone else for the past few years.
In the long run, we could really see Manchester City and Liverpool becoming the big two in England, but the margins in football are thin and it’s never that simple making predictions like this.
Just to be clear, I want the best for Pep, that’s why it frustrates me to see Liverpool and not Manchester City with the biggest honours, but said many times before: I’ve nothing against Liverpool nor Klopp, who I am fond of.
