Ok first what is it? Well its a free software winch is basically a collection of filter. A lot of filters. Im talking 500+ of them
It comes pre installed with Krita, you can download it as a plugin for Gimp and there& #39;s also an online version 1/15
I will give the links at the end of the thread
Before we start here& #39;s a quick guide on opening GMIC. You can access it via the filter menu tab. On GIMP its the same thing, bottom of the filter tab 2/15
Here& #39;s a brief overview of the interface. By default its on light mode, if you want dark mode check the preferences (bottom left) 3/15
Ok here we go, first Filter, well actually in this case the group, the [Colorize] Filters (in the Black and White category). This is basically automatic color flats. EXTREMELY useful when making comics (or just coloring anything with a lineart) 4/15
As you can see my lineart is very messy but the coloration works just fine. You also dont need to close gaps in your lineart, the filter works either way. There& #39;s different algorithms available, they all have their strengths and weaknesses 5/15
Im not going to cover all of them in depth (it will be for another thread), if you want to learn how to use them instead go to Davird Revoy& #39;s YT channel! 6 /15 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bvi7p3sRIJM">https://www.youtube.com/watch...
Next is the Simulate film/Color Presets Filter (Color Category). This is basically a collection of LUTs (if you dont know what it is instead think of it as a collection of instagram filters). Really good for tweaking colors! 7/15
Theres in total 896 different colors preset (yes, you read that right) arranged in 20 categories. Find this too overwhelming? No problem! At the top of each preset category you will see the "All [collage]" option. This will render a collage of all the presets of the category 8/15
This way its much easier to see which preset is the best for your image :). To note you can also create your own preset/LUT with the "CLUT from Before-After layers" and import other CLUT with the "Apply external CLUT" filter (all in the color category) 9/15
Next is the series of [Sharpen] filters, particularly the Gold-Meinel one and the Inverse diffusion one . Very useful when upping the sharpness of down scaled images (in the exemple the Gold meinel filter is applied on the right). 10/15
Gold-Meinel and Inverse diffusion are essentially the same, the only difference is that Inverse diffusion is a little bit more subtle than Gold-Meinel. Both are in the Details category 11/15
The Chromatic Aberration filter. Pretty self explanatory. Its in the Degradation category 12/15
I highly recommend to all of you to experiment and try out all the filters in order to discover what they do . I& #39;m only showing the ones i use the most, but keep in mind there are 500+ filters in total, who do a ton of very cool stuff https://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="🎉" title="Partyknaller" aria-label="Emoji: Partyknaller"> 13/15
I made this thread in hope more artist will try out this neat piece of software, its not a very well known in the art community and its a little sad consider how packed with content this thing is https://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="😕" title="Verwirrtes Gesicht" aria-label="Emoji: Verwirrtes Gesicht">, plus it is frequently updated so filters keep getting added to the list 14/15
Here& #39;s the Download page! : https://gmic.eu/download.shtml
And">https://gmic.eu/download.... the online version for people with tablets and phones! https://gmicol.greyc.fr/

Also if you like GMIC dont forget to donate to their dev fund! https://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="❤️" title="Rotes Herz" aria-label="Emoji: Rotes Herz"> 15/15
Thats it for today! Maybe i will add more examples on the future, and do threads on other stuff, depends on my mood.
