This is going to be a VERY long thread about the LGD/Peanut backlash in the Chinese LPL community.
I’ve already talked a lot about this but I still have more to say.
(Don’t read this thread if extreme hate comments make you sad.)

Disclaimer: Obviously not all people on Weibo are horrible and not all horrible people are on Weibo specifically.
But I will say that as someone who often reads through Chinese/Korean/English forums, the backlash this time is one of the worst I’ve seen.

I saw a Reddit post where someone translated a bunch of Weibo reactions to LGD losing and everyone thought it was real funny.
Here are some other much less funny comments you’d typically see too.
These are everywhere btw. It isn’t just a small group of people.

I could’ve easily found and translated more, but tbh I was already feeling kinda sick reading these.
(Green underline means someone intentionally went into a player’s fan group to talk shit).

It’s not funny. And I feel that some of this is kinda encouraged by their media.
This post was by an account with 3.2M followers after LGD finally got their first win.
This was the first thing the account posted after the win (outside the generic congratulations & POG stuff).

The first thing they posted was a translation of Frosk’s & LS’s tweets talking about how terrible the win was.
Granted they are an LPL media/news account and maybe there is an argument that they’re “obligated” to share what the PEOPLE OF THE WORLD think about the LPL games.

But I find it hard to believe that they had a compelling reason to post this. Especially when they knew full well how freaking pissed off people already were.
Their choice in content to post/translate after a such a tough win & after a stressful few games just feels kinda...

This isn’t an isolated case & anyone who uses Weibo would agree that these accounts constantly post things that make players who are already being criticised look even worse. They also really enjoy bringing up topics that they know would piss people off.
These are the SAME media outlets that do post-game interviews with the players, telling them to keep fighting or whatever.
It’s a recurring pattern and I often question if they even genuinely support or give a shit about a team FROM THEIR REGION once they start to do poorly.

Anyways.
There are obviously really nice and great people on Weibo, as there are everywhere else. And there are a lot of them.
But I just feel like the shroud of negativity on there (right now) is so dense and heavy that it doesn’t give them much of a voice.

It really isn’t uncommon for fans to get shit on or sworn at by others for trying to be supportive, & I can see why someone might be hesitant to publicly show support for a team that’s been doing poorly.
But of course, things would be very different if the team was doing well.

I just wish these huge accounts would recognise the influence and power and reach that they have.
Whether or not they they really care about the teams or players, I BEG them to please for god’s sake ensure that their content is translated accurately.

One media page translated an interview Peanut did with inven global.
A mistranslation caused him to get backlash for bringing up an ex-team & talking about how much he missed them when his own current team was doing badly.

But with 3 million followers, the damage was already done and people were already pissed off.
They could just edit their post like it was nothing and no one even questioned it. But a player was already misrepresented and criticised for something he didn’t even say.

Here’s another mistranslation of V3 Bugi’s tweet by a different media page.
The actual statement (correct me if I’m wrong) was, “If we beat LGD tomorrow, LGD will be eliminated.”
Thankfully, most LPL fans hate LGD now so he was actually shown a lot of support

I know for a fact that some of the pages I’ve mentioned somehow see my tweets (because I’ve seen them occasionally end up on Weibo), so who knows... they might even see this thread.
If they do then... nothing’s gonna change but maybe they’ll feel a little bad about it.

Honourable mentions-
1: MY FAV COMMENT posted after Peanut apologised for playing badly
2: A page who translated Hysterics’s tweet & made sure we all knew they voted LGD HAHA
3: Comment after Peanut said in a KOREAN interview that he knows many Korean fans are supporting him

Lastly.
A lot of people on here talk about how LGD are gonna get flamed & this & that but I don’t think you really understand how bad the hate is.
Can’t do much about it but it’d be great if we could just cheer for the players who are already having a hard-enough time as it is.
