I think many people criticizing those calling for Marquez were missing the argument being made. It was never really about whether he was "ready" or not. He's a 21-year-old who never pitched above A+. Odds were overwhelming that he WASN'T "ready."
For me it was about continuing development at the big league level in a year where he wasn't really getting any development by staying down any longer. I'd much rather have him throw a couple low leverage outings in the bigs than continue to throw sim games in South Bend.
Him showing out in the big leagues would have just been a bonus. The Cubs were already infrequently using their lefties (Didn't throw a lefty for a week straight at one point), so it's not like the spot he was going to take was being used.
And if you were worried about a bad outing or two negatively impacting his psyche moving forward, then you should have very low expectations for his long-term development regardless.
I’d also add, for those saying he’s just a guy with poor control and that’s why the Cubs didn’t call him up. This isn’t the chart of a guy with bad control, it’s the chart of a guy struggling to find his release point, almost assuredly due to nerves.
