I go to therapy to help deal with my stress. I’m lucky to have found a practice I can afford that provides sessions over zoom.
When I have a zoom call with my therapist, I don’t have to worry about…

1. Being judged for my feelings or emotions
2. Being a burden to my friends and family
3. Being boring
4. Being screenshot.
Your therapist will only intervene if they are worried that you are going to harm yourself or others. They will most likely call the emergency contact you list in the initial paperwork.
Therapy isn't just about dealing with stress, sadness, or truama. You can talk to a therapist about your HAPPINESS too. Your therapist is also being (ahem) paid to listen, so talk about whatever the hell you want. It’s all about you and there’s nothing selfish about it.
Finding a practice can be challenging. If you are in the United States and you are still on your parent’s health insurance plan (you usually are until the age of 26) USE IT. Trust me, it can be challenging to set up your own plan.
I was discouraged early on because I couldn’t afford a certain practice, but then I realized it was a PRIVATE practice. That meant their rates were fixed and didn't adjust to what your individual plan. Don’t be discouraged if you have to look at a few different places.
If you don’t live in the United States, finding a therapist can be harder/easier. I don’t have advice for anything outside out of the U.S but if anyone has tips please feel free to share them.
Life Hack: When the campus therapist was overbooked (and it usually was) I’d book a Catholic confessional. You do NOT have to be Catholic to set one up. Most confessions I booked turned into friendly conversations that made me feel better.
We’ve come a long way, but there’s still some stigma surrounding seeing a therapist. If you’re worried about people judging you, just know that I won’t. You don’t have to tell anyone either. I’m making this known so if anyone is having doubts they know they are not alone.
